Almeta’s Chocolate Cookies

My friend is a “Cookies Queen” who bakes amazing cookies all the time, especially at Christmas and she doesn’t even like cookies!!! (What a shame!!! But it is good as I just have to fight with her kids and her dog when she bakes them!)

She decided to share one of her recipes with us!

I will copy the description she gave to me below, but bear in mind, she is American so you will have to deal with “cups“.

I confess that I had to buy a small, really nice “cups set” – just an excuse to do some more kitchen tools shopping – to be able to prepare the recipes she is sharing with me!


1 cup Butter, softened
1 cup White Sugar
1 cup Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Baking soda
2 teaspoons hot Water
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 cups semisweet Chocolate chips
1 cup chopped Walnuts

(Remember that milk chocolate doesn’t look so good after cooking as I don’t think it likes hot temperatures too much! I  would just use dark chocolate pieces or dark chocolate ready chips for cookies and cakes).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.

Dissolve the baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt.

Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts.

Drop large spoonfuls of the mixture onto ungreased pans or use baking paper.

Bake until brown!
